| Description: | It is assumed that Thuner regarded the tablature book as a template for music-making at the Rosenburse in Vienna, Lautenbüchlein des Jakob Thurner 1971, IX-X. Since the Rosenburse in Vienna was a student residence for the wealthier middle class, it can be assumed that Thurner also belonged to this class. The presence of non-musical content ('diminútio', fols. 16r–17r; 'Additio', fol. 17r; 'subtractio', fol. 17v; 'Multipl[icatio]', fol. 18r; 'Diúissio In Minitys', fol. 18v) suggests that the notebook functioned as a multipurpose exercise book used by Thurner. |
