We are compiling a comprehensive electronic edition of lute tablatures (special notations for lutes) from the German-speaking world between 1450 and 1550. Due to the fact that the notation (‘Deutsche Lautentabulatur’) is no longer used today, the manuscripts are scattered all over Central Europe and there is a lack of elaborated, standardised research methods, the corpus (over 2,000 pages) has not yet been indexed and deciphered in its entirety and could therefore only be analysed selectively. It has therefore remained virtually inaccessible to scholars and professional musicians as well as to the wider circle of interested parties. Our aim is to develop a new form of music edition: An "open knowledge platform", in which musicology, music practice, music informatics and literary studies intertwine and link conventional editing methods in disciplinary and interdisciplinary research. In order to create a comprehensive modern complete edition, we synchronise computer high technology (encoding, linking and automatic transcription) with manual music transcription and musical performance practice. We consider recordings of lute music to be a conceptual component of the edition. Furthermore, all components are provided and linked with information on music history and performance practice. The edition is permanently hosted by the Austrian National Library and integrated into RISM.
Wir erstellen eine umfassende elektronische Edition von Lautentabulaturen (spezielle Notationen für Lauten) aus dem deutschsprachigen Raum zwischen 1450 und 1550. Auf Grund der heute nicht mehr verwendeten Notation (“Deutsche Lautentabulatur”), der über ganz Mitteleuropa verstreuten Aufbewahrungsorte der Manuskripte und der Mangel an ausgearbeiteten, einheitlichen Forschungsmethoden, wurde das Corpus (über 2.000 Seiten) in seiner Gesamtheit bisher nicht erschlossen und entschlüsselt und konnte somit nur punktuell ausgewertet werden. Es blieb daher sowohl für Wissenschaft und professionelle Musiker als auch für den weiteren Kreis von Interessierten kaum zugänglich. Unser Ziel ist es, eine neuartige Form der Musikedition zu entwickeln: Eine "open knowledge platform", in der Musikwissenschaft, Musikpraxis, Musikinformatik und Literaturwissenschaft ineinandergreifen und herkömmliche Editionsmethoden in disziplinärer und interdisziplinärer Forschung vernetzen. Um eine umfassende moderne Gesamtedition zu gestalten, synchronisieren wir Computer-Hochtechnologie (Enkodierung, Verlinkung und automatische Transkription) mit manueller Musiktranskription und musikalischer Aufführungspraxis. Als konzeptuellen Bestandteil der Edition betrachten wir Aufnahmen der Lautenmusik. Weiters sind sämtliche Komponenten mit musikhistorischen und aufführungspraktischen Informationen versehen und verlinkt. Die Edition ist dauerhaft von der Österreichischen Nationalbibliothek gehostet und in RISM integriert.
